Summer isn't just downtime — for most students, it's two months of mathematical backsliding. At The Progressive Centre's Math Summer Camp in South Ajax, we do something different: small groups of six students max, led by certified teacher Tara Johnson, working in 2-hour targeted sessions designed to build September confidence, not just fill summer hours. This is high-intensity academic enrichment, and it changes how students think, plan, and problem-solve.
This is not a daycare program. It is a professional, boutique academic studio and here's what that means for your child:

Focus: Working Memory
Master the building blocks of mathematics. Students refine their ability to hold and manipulate numerical information.
Grades 3-4 focus on operational skills and mental math strategies.
Grades 5-6 tackle fractions and decimal operations.
Grades 7-8 dive into proportional reasoning and integers. Exercises strengthen working memory to improve retention and problem-solving speed.
Focus: Task Initiation
Overcome math procrastination. Students learn to break complex algebraic problems into manageable steps.
Grades 3-4 explore patterns and equality.
Grades 5-6 introduce variable expressions and simple equations.
Grades 7-8 solve multi-step linear equations. We teach strategies to start assignments with clarity and purpose.
Focus: Organization
Develop a structured approach to geometry and measurement. Students improve visual-spatial reasoning and physical work management.
Grades 3-4 examine 2D shapes and 3D figures.
Grades 5-6 investigate area, perimeter, and volume.
Grades 7-8 analyze geometric properties and transformations.
Participants gain systems to organize their thinking and their physical workspace.
Focus: Planning and Prioritization
Prepare for real-world success through mathematical application. Students connect math to personal finance.
Grades 3-4 learn about money value and basic transactions.
Grades 5-6 explore earning, saving, and budgeting.
Grades 7-8 calculate interest, taxes, and complex financial plans.
This week teaches students how to sequence goals and prioritize essential financial decisions.
