Built for how Ontario families actually learn

Families across Ontario, from Durham Region to Toronto, York, Peel, and beyond, are choosing online tutoring for the same reason: it removes the barrier of distance without lowering the bar on quality.

The Progressive Centre has spent 13 years working inside Ontario classrooms and alongside Ontario families. Our team includes experienced tutors and subject matter experts who know the Ontario Curriculum inside and out, many with direct classroom experience in the TDSB, the DDSB, and boards across the province. When your child logs on for a session, they are working with someone who understands exactly what their teacher expects, at exactly their grade level.

This matters more for math and science than most parents realize. A tutor who does not know the Ontario Curriculum can teach a concept correctly and still leave your child confused, because the method does not match what their teacher taught. Our online tutors close that gap — every lesson lines up with what is happening in your child’s actual classroom.

Programs

Core academic programs, by grade

Elementary · Grades 3–5

Foundational math fluency and hands-on science exploration, delivered through short, engaging online sessions built for younger attention spans.

Upper Elementary · Grades 6–8

Support through the transition to more abstract math and introductory science concepts, with an emphasis on building independent study habits before high school.

High School · Grades 9–12

Subject-specific tutoring in math (MCR3U, MHF4U, MDM4U, MCV4U) and science (biology, chemistry, physics), plus exam prep, EQAO support, and credit recovery guidance.

Every program is mapped to Ontario Curriculum expectations by grade and subject, so your child’s online sessions reinforce what they are learning in class rather than replacing it with something disconnected.

Why choose us

The Progressive Centre difference

Four reasons Ontario families choose us for online tutoring.

Tutors

Hand-selected tutors and subject matter experts

Our team includes experienced teachers and specialists in math and science, chosen for both subject mastery and the ability to teach it clearly. You are booking time with someone who knows the material and knows how to explain it.

Approach

Personalized learning plans

We start with a real assessment of where your child stands, not a generic placement test. Their online sessions are built around their specific gaps and goals.

Format

1-on-1 and small group options, both online

Some students thrive with focused one-on-one time. Others do well in a small group of two or three. We offer both formats virtually, so you can choose what fits your child and your budget.

History

13 years serving Ontario families

We built our reputation in person, in Durham Region classrooms and living rooms, before we ever offered a virtual option. Online tutoring from us is a natural extension of a program that already works.

Process

How online tutoring works

1

Phone Consultation

We start with a phone consultation to understand your child’s grade, subject needs, and current gaps. This gives us what we need to find the right fit before your child’s first session.

2

Tutor Match

Based on your consultation, we match your child with a tutor or subject matter expert suited to their grade, subject, and learning style. You will know who is working with your child and why they were chosen.

3

Measurable Improvements

Sessions run on a consistent schedule using video conferencing and a shared digital whiteboard, so your child can show their work in real time. We track progress against report card benchmarks and adjust the plan as they improve.

Many families come to us for subject tutoring and end up asking about study skills too — if that sounds familiar, take a look at our Executive Functioning Coaching program.

Parents

What Ontario parents are saying

“We tried finding an in-person tutor near us in Toronto and everything had a waitlist. Online tutoring with The Progressive Centre meant we could start right away, and my son actually prefers doing math on the whiteboard screen.”

Toronto family

“I was skeptical about online tutoring for a Grade 3 student. Her tutor kept her engaged the whole session and she asks when the next one is.”

York Region family

“We used their in-person program for years and switched to online when our schedule got busier. The quality did not drop at all. Same tutor, same curriculum focus, just more convenient.”

For most students, yes. What matters most is a qualified tutor, a personalized plan, and consistency, not the room the session happens in. Our online sessions use a shared digital whiteboard so your child can show their work the same way they would in person.

We tutor students in Grades 3 through 12, with math and science programs built around Ontario Curriculum expectations at each grade level.

Yes. Every tutor, whether a certified teacher or a subject matter expert, builds sessions around what your child is learning in their actual classroom.

A computer or tablet with a camera and a stable internet connection. We handle the video platform and digital whiteboard, so there is nothing extra to buy or install.

We help you decide during the free intake assessment, based on your child's learning style, the subject, and your budget.

Yes. Many of our families move between formats depending on their schedule for the season. Your child keeps the same learning plan either way.
